While 'Musikhjälpen' (Music Aid) is a huge national event, its success relies on smaller, local events organised across Sweden. In Växjö, the student station RadioLUR, whose motto is "by students – for everyone", took up the challenge. Their mission was to run a 24-hour live broadcast from a campus café to raise money and awareness for the year's theme, "children are not for sale," and contribute to the national total.
Running a non-stop, 24-hour live event that is broadcast simultaneously on internet radio, local FM, and live TV is an immense technical challenge. For a student-led team, there was no room for error. They needed a platform that could handle a continuous stream without interruption and be simple enough to manage during a high-pressure live show with multiple presenters, guests, and live music.
Radio.co was the go-to choice for powering the internet radio stream, offering the rock-solid stability and ease of use that the event demanded. The platform ticked all the boxes for what was needed in a live charity marathon:
"There were a few problems during the show on our end. But overall, everything went smoothly and we were satisfied with the Radio.co platform."
Despite a few minor on-site issues, the broadcast ran smoothly - a testament to the students' hard work and the reliability of their tools. The event was a huge success, breaking the previous year's record and raising over 64,000 SEK (around $8,000). The partnership proved how accessible online radio can be a powerful tool for charity, enabling a local student event to make a significant contribution to a vital national cause.
